Jim Spears, Former Peace Officer, Dead
Succumbs To Heart Trouble Following
Illness Of Several Weeks
Jim A Spears, former county peach officer and for a number of years a well known Sherman citizen, died at his home, 228 North Cemetery street, Friday afternoon at 5 o'clock, following several months of illness with heart trouble. Mr Spears was confined to his bed for but a few days before his death, which came as a distinct surprise to many friends over the county.
Funeral services will take place Sunday morning at 10 o"clock from the late home, conducted by the Reverend T L Holcomb, pastor First Baptist Church and burial will be in Cannon Cemetery near Van Alstyne.
Mr Spears lived for a number of years at Van Alstyne, where he served tow terms as constable. He moved to Sherman to become a deputy sheriff under the administration of Sheriff Lee McAfee, and is credited with being a most competent officer. While serving as an officer he worked up a number of important cases.
Mr Spears is survived by his wife of the following sons and daughters: Harold Spears, Mrs Edwin Smith, Ben spears, Miss Catherine Spears and Jack Spears, all of Sherman.
