Mission - Rogelio G. "Roy" Vela, 71, passed away on September 27, 2017, at Doctors Hospital in Edinburg.
He was a lifelong resident of Mission and a 1966 graduate of Mission High School, and later served in the U.S. Air Force from 1967-1971. Upon his discharge, he attended Pan American University, and obtained his double majors in Inter-American Affairs and History, having graduated with Honors. He was a school teacher for 23 years.
He had several hobbies, which include wood burning, writing poetry, song writing, storytelling, oil painting, sketching, BBQ-ing, and his favorite, telling jokes.
He will always be remembered for his heart of gold, compassion, generosity, and witnessing for God and leading hundreds to the Lord.
He is preceded in death by his parents Bonifacio and Carolina Vela; sisters Inocencia Vela, Carolina Trevino, and Lydia Rodriguez.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 1, 2017, from 4-9, with a 7pm prayer service at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 2, 2017, at 9:30 am at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mission. Burial will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.
Services are under the direction of Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission, Texas.
