Doyle Dean Hughes, 69, of Eula, died Monday, November 17, 2003 at his home.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 19, 2003 at the Eula Baptist Church with Reverend Larry Adams officiating with burial in the Eula Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.
Doyle was born January 4, 1934 in Coleman Co., Texas to Elmer and Annie Sparkman Hughes. He graduated from Mozelle High School and Hardin Simmons University. He married Roberta Edwards November 6, 1954 in Eula. They moved to Eula from Stanton in 1979. He worked for the Shell Oil Co. for 20 years and farmed for 10 years. He was a math teacher at Baird for eight years, having previously taught in the Fort Stockton and Fort Hancock Schools. He was a member of Eula Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, having been ordained in 1956 and was a life member of the NRA.
He is survived by his wife, Roberta of Clyde; two daughters, Molly Hughes Henson of Midland and Jill Hughes Palkovitz of Baltimore, MA; two sisters, Ophelia Watson of Austin and Mellie Gober of Odessa; one brother, Frank Hughes of Odessa and eight grandchildren. Samuel Henson, attending LaTourneau University in Longview, TX, Rael Henson, attending Midland College, Midland, TX, Jonathan Henson of Midland, TX, Zachary Henson of Midland, TX, Isaac Henson of Midland, TX, Robert (Bob) Henson of Midland, Robert Palkovitz of Baltimore, MA and Alice Ophelia Palkovitz of Baltimore, MA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Annie Ophelia Hughes and one grandson, Elliot Henson.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6-7:30 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home.

Roberta Lee Edwards Hughes, 68, of Eula died Wednesday, March 10th, 2004 in an Abilene Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 14, 2004 at Eula Baptist Church with the Reverend Larry Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the Eula Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Clyde.
Roberta was born January 10, 1936 in Foard County, TX to R.G, and Oleta White Edwards. She graduated from Eula High School and attended Hardin- Simmons University and Midland College. She was the widow of Doyle Dean Hughes, whom she married November 6, 1954 at her parents' home in Eula. She and Doyle lived in Abilene, Midland, Stanton, Eula and far West Texas. She was a homemaker, piano teacher, secretary and music teacher. For eight years she worked at the Abilene State School leading choir and bell choir and serving as assistant chaplain. She played the piano in church since she was 11 years old, starting at Eula Baptist Church. Later, she was a pianist at Wilshire Park Baptist Church in Midland, the First Baptist Church in Stanton, Eula and Fort Stockton, TX. While living in Fort Hancock, TX she was a pianist at the Baptist Church in El Porvenir, Mexoco. She and her husband returned to Eula in 1997. She was also an artist and weaver, involved in the local weaver's guild and the national organization of Complex Weavers. She was a member of the Eula Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her father, one sister, Mary Jane Edwards, and one infant grandson, Eliot Henson.
