Gainesville resident Mary Gates, 89, passed away Sunday, January 24, 2016 at Pecan Tree Health and Rehab Center. She was born in Hastings, Nebraska September 5, 1926, the daughter of M.C. and Anna (Schwartzkopf) Alexander. Mary was a bank teller and worked at Gainesville National Bank for many years. She was a member of Eastern Star Chapter 1123 and was a Past Worthy Matron. Mrs. Gates was employed at Sanders Jewelry Store after retiring and was a volunteer at North Texas Medical Center for over 20 years. She was a member of the American Study Club, Circle Meeting and a member of the Sunday School Class of First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her children and their spouses Allen and Sue Gates of Gainesville, Pamela and Douglas Taylor of Grand Island, Nebraska, Jeffrey and Gloria Gates of Grand Island, Nebraska, Jim and Vicky Gates of Gainesville, Shelley and Johnny Richey of Gainesville and Melissa and Larry Wuthrich of San Antonio; cousin, Janelle Windsor of Lincoln, Nebraska; 24 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Byron Russell Gates; parents Anna and M.C. Alexander; Mother and Father-in-law, Clifford and Charlotte Gates; brother and sister-in-law, Stanley and Phyllis Alexander and cousins, Harry and Velma Dressen.

Funeral Services ~ Thursday, January 28th at Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Gainesville with Rev. John Hare officiating. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery.
