Funeral services for Lillian Hawkins, 85, of Gainesville, are scheduled for 1:00 PM on Friday, January 18, 2019 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. Interment at Fairview Cemetery will be private. The family will receive friends at 6:00 PM on Thursday, January 17 at the funeral home.
Lillian was born on March 31, 1933 at home in Gober, TX. She was the seventh of nine children born to Alfred Elijah Jones and Cordie Lee (Akard) Jones. Lillian attended elementary school in Gober and then went on to graduate from Bonham High School in 1950. Following graduation, she moved to Dallas, TX to begin her working career. She married Kenneth Wallis of Leonard, TX in 1952, and together they had three daughters: Marie Dianne, Kathy Sue, and Lisa Faye. They made their home in Greenville, TX where Lillian worked in journalism for the Greenville Herald Banner.
In 1969 they moved to Gainesville, TX where she lived her entire life at home until two weeks ago when she became ill. Lillian received her real estate license and began working for Bob Claxton Real Estate where she was a successful agent. At one time, she closed one of the largest real estate transactions ever recorded for Gainesville. In 1983, she married Houston Hawkins II, and began working for close family friend, John Ed Richards/Richards Monuments. Lillian worked at Richards Monuments until she retired at the age of 80! Many people will fondly remember her kindness and compassion when going to Richards to purchase their monuments.
“Diamond Lil”, as she was well known, was just that… a real gem. She believed no matter the circumstances, family always came first and you never turn your back on family. That being said, anyone who knew Lil, knew her family was the most important thing in her life and the loved she had for her family was abundant. She taught her daughters to always be strong and to never depend on anyone to take care of you. Her life lessons have been passed down to her children and grandchildren who are blessed to have had such a wonderful example to follow.
Lillian is survived by her daughters: Marie Dianne Perrin and Kathy Sue Terry (Tim); sisters: Lucille Carver, Dell Cheney (A.T.), and Inell Donahue of Bonham, Helen Marchant and Elizabeth Vleck of Carrollton and sister-in-law Bessie Jones of Bonham; grandchildren: Kelli Hunter (Barry), Brad Perrin (Jacqueline), Amber Perrin (Eli), Chisam Wolf, and Katy Foster; great-grandchildren: Ashton and Jake Reynolds, Blake Hunter (Courtney), Cole Hunter, Triston Shotts, Ella and Whitt Perrin, Kaleigh, Sofie, and Christian Garcia, Eli Salazar, Kaden and Brooklyn Wolf, Jesse Evans, and Bodee Foster; and great-great-granddaughter Harper Jo Provost.
Mrs. Hawkins was preceded in death by: her parents; brother Caldwell Jones; sister Mozelle McBrayer (Frosty); daughter Lisa Faye Wallis; and grandson Wesley Adam Wolf.
