Mr. Caldwell was born January 9, 1913 to Andrew and Bessie Wilt Caldwell in Cleveland, OH. He married Dorothy M. Robinson on December 11, 1943 in Gainesville. Mr. Caldwell was a World War II veteran. He liked to say that he “opened Camp Howze and closed it” having been one of the first stationed there and one of the last to leave. Also, he was a well known artist and wood carver.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Gainesville, his sister in law Virginia Crawford, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews to whom he was known as uncle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Harry Caldwell, Royce Caldwell, and his sister Evelyn Sanderson.

Memorial services for Dorothy Mae Caldwell, 96, of Gainesville Texas are scheduled for Sunday, July 12, 2015 at 3 p.m. -to be held at the First Christian Church of Gainesville Texas. Pastor Mark Loewen will officiate.

Dorothy Mae went to be with our Lord and Savior on July 1, 2015.

Dorothy Mae Caldwell was born in Cooke County, Texas. She was born to Roy Bolivar Robinson and Anita Gertrude Hall Robinson on January 10, 1919.

Dorothy attended early schooling in Gainesville Texas, graduating high school in 1935. She graduated Cooke County College in 1937, attended TWU, Denton, Texas in 1938, and Eastern Oklahoma University in 1939 where she received her Bachelors degree in Education.

She worked at Camp Howze, where she met her husband to be, Erwin N. Caldwell. Erwin and Dorothy were married December 11, 1943. They remained sweethearts here on this side of heaven until Erwin's passing in March 2009. They were married 66 years.

After her husband's discharge from the service in 1945, Dorothy Mae and Erwin moved to the Cleveland, Ohio area, where Dorothy taught elementary school. Dorothy went on to obtain her Masters in Education and taught school for over 25 yrs. in Ohio. After her retirement from teaching, Dorothy assisted her husband with his nationally known wood carving business and talents where he displayed his carvings around the nation, participating and winning prestigious awards, and later teaching wood carving classes within their community. Dorothy Mae enjoyed sewing, working in her garden and flower beds, and enjoyed canning the goods from her garden.

Dorothy was a member of Gainesville's First Christian Church and where she valued attending and making new friends.

Dorothy Mae is preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her younger brother, Roy Robinson Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas.

She is survived by her dear sister and caregiver for many years, Virginia Dell Robinson Crawford of Gainesville Texas. While having no children of their own, Dorothy leaves behind a number of nephews, Thomas W. Crawford of Leon, Oklahoma, Bill Robinson and wife, Janna of Boyd, Texas, and Roy Robinson of Comanche, Texas. She also leaves a niece, Anita Sue Crawford Cashon and husband, Mike, of Krum, Texas.

Dorothy leaves behind nine great nieces and nephews, 10 great-great-nieces and nephews, three great-great-great- nieces and nephews and a few cousins.
