Memorial Services for Lillian "Lil" Hays will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 9, 2017 in the chapel of Jackson's Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home and with Rev. Pike Wisner and Rev. Scott Richardson officiating. Lillian was born on February 20, 1930 in Gainesville, Texas to Frank and Lillie McGaughey Bruns. She married Sam Hays in 1948 in Gainesville. Prior to moving to Tyler, she served as pianist at First Baptist Church in Gainesville. She has been a resident of Tyler since 1967, and was employed at First Baptist Church, Tyler as administrative assistant to the Minister of Education for 21 years. After retirement she has served as a volunteer in the church office and Recreation Center in her church. She has also been a volunteer at East Texas Medical Center for 25 years. She is survived by a son, Mark and Cheri Hays of Tyler; daughter, Karen Newcomb of Abilene; grandsons, Mitchell Hays of Las Vegas, and Scott and Jessika Hays of Houston; nephew Robert Seiwell of Lake Jackson; and niece, Mary Downs of California. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sister, Christine Bruns and brother, Lawrence Bruns. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Downtown Revival Fund, First Baptist Church, 301 W. Ferguson, Tyler, Texas 75702.
