Lois Evalyn SHARP

Fairview Cemetery
Cooke County,
Texas

Funeral services for Warren Edward Sharp, 95, long-time Gainesville resident, most recently of Midland, are scheduled for 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Shelley McNew officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, September 8 at the funeral home.

Warren was born in Trenton, Nebraska on July 14, 1922, and grew up on his parents’ farm. His family lost everything to the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl, and in the late 1930’s they moved to Hobbs, New Mexico where his father found a job as a carpenter and Warren completed high school. He often recalled the Depression years when shopping for antiques by commenting that certain pieces of furniture (which younger people thought looked beautiful) reminded him of “hard times.”

When World War II broke out in 1941, Warren joined the United States Navy, and served his country in the Pacific Theater in such engagements as Tarawa, Guam, and Guadalcanal. After the war, Warren married his beloved wife Evelyn, and raised a family. Working for the Conoco Corporation, Warren earned the nickname “Doc” for his impressive ability to fix complicated problems with oil wells and other machines. If he could not fix it, it could not be fixed.

After he retired from Conoco, he and Evalyn moved to Gainesville, Texas where Warren was active with the Masons and Shriners, and a member of Whaley United Methodist Church. He and Evalyn were also members of the local RV club and would often spend their summers in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Warren enjoyed woodworking and spent many hours in his garage making furniture for friends and family members. Most of all, Warren is remembered by all who knew him as a gentle man with a big heart, who loved to laugh and tell stories. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Warren was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Lois Evalyn Sharp (née Moore), and his parents Ruth Bratt Sharp and Orson Jacob Sharp.

Survivors include: his daughter Deborah Jane Tubbs and son-in-law Mikel “Mikel Wayne” Hudson Tubbs (both of Midland), his son and daughter-in-law David Warren Sharp and Janette Taylor Sharp (both of Houston), along with his grandchildren Brandi Lyn Combs, husband Cullen (of Shreveport), Blake Warren Tubbs, wife Ely (of Seville, Spain), Kathryn Sharp Bromm, husband Ryan (of Houston) and Matthew David Sharp, wife Julia (of Houston). He is also survived by his five great-grandchildren Nicolas Tubbs, Blake-John Tubbs, Jakob Southerland, Luke Bromm, and Allison Bromm.
