Lonnie is the 9th of 10 children of John Wylie Sidney Akins and Savannah Ophelia Henderson.
His siblings are Washington Montgomery, John Henry, Mary Emma, Maggie(died as an infant), Nellie Mae, Bertha Lee, Sidney Charlie, James Walter, and William Wylie.

Christine Akins passed away Thursday, February 21, 2013 at her home in Lewisville. She was born February 24, 1923 in Gilmer, Texas, the daughter of Tolbert Lee and Eva Vera (Bowins) Cox.
She married Lonnie Akins July 4, 1942 in Van, Texas. Mrs. Akins loved the Cowboys, Mavericks and Rangers and enjoyed fishing and cooking. She was a member of Commerce Street Church of Christ.
Survivors include her daughter, Darlene Dawson; grand daughter; great-grandsons and many close friends and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Johnny Akins; two sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services are scheduled for 12:00 p.m. Monday, February 25, 2013 at Meador-Clement-Keel Chapel with David Gray, Pastor of Hillcrest Church of Christ officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
