Gainesville resident, Evelyn "Monie" Spires passed away Sunday, September 24, 2017 at Pecan Tree Health and Rehab Center at the age of ninety-three years. Evelyn was born in Gainesville, Texas on December 24, 1923, to Robert Lee and Jennie Matilda (Lillard) Dillard. She married George Washington Spires July 3, 1940 in Love County, Oklahoma. Monie was a homemaker and a member of Cross Point Church of the Nazarene in Fort Worth.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 29th at Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Gainesville with Rev. Todd Derbyshire and Rev. Phil Williford officiating. Kevin Barnhill, Dallas Williford, Jason Williford, Ben Mathis, Zeb Mathis and Zeke Mathis will be serving as pallbearers. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Survivors include her daughters, Virginia Barnhill of Gainesville, Tricia Williford and husband Phil of Gainesville and Sherri Mathis of Fort Worth; fifteen grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren; eighteen great-great-grandchildren; brother, Ivan Dillard and wife, Carrol of Gainesville; sister, Anna Margaret Land of Gainesville and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Abbie Mathis and brothers, R.J. Dillard, Vernon Lee Dillard and Bill Dillard.
