Funeral services for Marian Tanner Westbrook, 86, of Dallas are set for 2:00 PM Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home Chapel in Gainesville, TX, with Rev. David Howeth officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Mrs. Westbrook died on December 24, 2011 in Plano.
She was born on October 19, 1925 in Gainesville to Harold and Elizabeth Tanner.
She grew up in Gainesville and graduated from Gainesville High School and the attended the University of Texas in Austin.
In 1949 she married Austin Westbrook.
In 1952 she and her mother, Elizabeth Tanner opened William Tanner Furniture in the Park Cities area of Dallas, they ran the furniture store together until 1987. It was said that "Marian could sell an ice box to an Eskimo."
After closing the furniture store she owned and operated an estate sale and appraisal school for over ten years sharing her knowledge of antiques to hundreds.
Marian was very active in the International Society of Appraisers and was recognized as the authority in Dallas for 19th American furniture.
Survivors include nephews: Bob and his wife Brenda Tanner of Pinetops, N.C., John Tanner of Plano and David and his wife Gina Tanner of Irving and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Austin Westbrook, her mother Elizabeth Tanner and her brother William Tanner.
Visitation is scheduled from 1:00 to 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home prior to the service.
