When Amos Hezekiah Bates was born on August 5, 1881, in Pilot Point, Texas, his father, William, was 36 and his mother, Eliza, was 31. He married Maud Ella Richardson on December 21, 1902, in Wilbarger, Texas. They had six children in 18 years. He died on July 12, 1941, in Electra, Texas, at the age of 60, and was buried in Fargo, Texas.
