Leola Seelye Smith was born on June 5, 1896, in Fargo, Texas. She married James Drew Cartwright in 1927 in Wilbarger, Texas. They had one child during their marriage. She died on August 4, 1980, in Vernon, Texas, at the age of 84, and was buried in her hometown.
