When John Wesley Elkins was born on June 7, 1898, in Throckmorton, Texas, his father, McGruder, was 31 and his mother, Susan, was 30. He married Johnnie Mozelle Myers on December 16, 1934, in Stonewall, Texas. They had four children in 16 years. He died on June 17, 1970, in Abilene, Texas, at the age of 72, and was buried in Peacock, Texas.
