Lily Bell's writing began at an early age about her inner thoughts and things she experienced. Most of her writings were about her immediate surroundings or something she was touched by. Her earliest poems were written when she was thirteen.
Her parents were Preston and Pearl Ethel Allen Hall. Maternal grandparents: George W and Ima Smith Allen and paternal grandparents: Lewis Hall and Amanda Allen. Great-grandmother: Jane Burt.
Lily Bell attended school at Energy Enterprise in the Germany Community and graduated from Crockett Colored High School in 1935, as Class Poetress.
