*Obituary
Austin American-Statesman - Nov. 25, 2007

Sue passed peacefully from this life November 15th, 2007. Though we will miss her tremendously, we remember her strength and determination and rejoice that she is now free from pain and suffering. A Memorial Service will be held for Sue Monday, November 26, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at All Saint's Episcopal Church in Austin. A reception will immediately follow in the Library in Kinsolving Hall at the church.

She was born in Nacogdoches, Texas but spent most of her youth in Jacksonville, Texas. She graduated from St. Stephen's in Austin and went on to earn a BA in Music Therapy from The University of Texas and later a Masters in Social Work from St. Edward's University. In college, Sue was active in Delta Delta Delta Sorority and was involved in the Episcopal Church.

Sue had a great love of and talent for music and spent most of her adult life singing at All Saint's Episcopal Church. Playing the piano and singing with the choir brought her great joy. Helping others was Sue's passion so service became her way of life. She spent the next 40+ years working in human services, beginning as a music therapist at the Austin State School.

Though diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1975, Sue enjoyed a full career, working in various capacities such as Activity Director for several nursing homes, Coordinator of Volunteer Services at Travis State School, with TRC, TYC, Lutheran Social Services, and as the first Executive Director for Austin Groups for the Elderly. Though wheelchair bound since 1992, Sue maintained her courage and independence with the help of her two beloved rottweilers, Hans and Axel until she moving to Waco with her daughter.

Sue is preceded in death by her parents Mark and Rachel Castleberry Summers (Crofts), her brother Robert Summers, an infant brother, and many beloved pets. She is survived by her son, Clay and wife, Stephanie Towery of Austin; her daughter Robyn and husband Dr. Karl M. Trippe of Waco; their four daughters and the delights of her life, Rachel, Jessica, Becca and Hannah; and a step-son, Brett Towery of Austin. Memorial contributions may be made to The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, St. Stephens Episcopal School, All Saint's Episcopal Church and the Austin Humane Society.
