Funeral services for Melvin Caffey, age 87 of Seminole, Texas will be held Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at West Side Church of Christ with Minister Ray Young officiating and Leo Copeland assisting. Burial will follow at Gaines County Memorial Cemetery. All services are under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home.
Mr. Caffey was born August 8, 1930 in Brownfield, Texas to Naomi (Baker) and Rupert Caffey. He married the love of his life Gayle Ketchersid, on October 9, 1953 in Quanah, Texas. He was a member of the Church of Christ, and graduated from Loop High School in 1948, where he was captain of the football and basketball teams. He entered the United States Army in 1951 and served in the Korean War.
Melvin went to work for Amerada Hess in 1953 as a construction foreman in the oilfield. He served as an elder at both Seventh Street and Westside Churches of Christ; he enjoyed taking care of the church grounds, and he always saw to it that his neighbors and friends were taken care of as well. In his spare time he enjoyed watching sports.
Melvin Caffey passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Memorial Health Care Center in Seminole. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gayle, in 2007; and two brothers. He is survived by two sons, Terry Caffey and wife Twila of Seminole, Texas and Tracy Caffey and wife Lynda of Ulysses, Kansas; one daughter, Theresa Ervin and husband Jim of Lubbock, Texas; one brother Leland “Buck” Caffey and wife Paula of Lubbock, Texas; two sisters, Pat Childress of Levelland, Texas and Barbara Roberts and husband Lee of Lubbock, Texas; four grandchildren, Jessica Wright and husband Curtis, Shasta Long and husband Nicholas, Ty Caffey, and Tacy Caffey; and four great-grandchildren, Mason Allen Wright, Jacob Troy Wright, Lucy Gayle Long, and Caleb Michael Long.

Funeral services for Gayle Caffey, 72, of Seminole, Texas, will be held Friday,
December 14, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the West Side Church of Christ in Seminole, with Leo Copeland officiating. Burial will follow in Gaines County Memorial Cemetery.
Services will be under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home of Seminole.
Mrs. Caffey passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at her residence following a lengthy illness. She was born April 6, 1935 in Quanah, Texas. She married Melvin Caffey in Medicine Mound, Texas in 1953, and aferwards they moved to Seminole, where they have lived since.
Mrs. Caffey worked for the Seminole school system in the dietary department for 21 years, and was a member of West Side Church of Christ. She also volunteered with the Pink Ladies at Seminole Memorial Hospital, and served a term as president of the organization.
Mrs. Caffey is preceded in death by her parents, and by one sister, Billie Jean Matthews.
Survivors include her husband, Melvin Caffey of Seminole, Texas; 2 sons, Terry Caffey and wife Twila of Seminole, Texas, Tracy Caffey and wife Lynda of Ulysses, Kansas, 1 daughter Theresa Ervin and husband Jim of Snyder, Texas; 5 Grandchildren; 2 Step-Grandchildren; and 4 Step-Great-grandchildren

Mrs. Caffey is also survived by several very special sisters-in law, and many very special friends.
