When James Eldon Spann was born on January 5, 1908, in Texas, his father, Harry, was 25 and his mother, Julia, was 24. He married Veda Mae Braswell on September 7, 1930, in Frederick, Oklahoma. He died on September 16, 1986, in Vernon, Texas, at the age of 78.
