When Melvin T Carter was born on August 6, 1890, in Scott, Virginia, his father, Elbert, was 33 and his mother, Sarah, was 21. He married Floye Lily Prescott in 1920 in Wilbarger, Texas. They had four children during their marriage. He died on March 25, 1958, in Wilbarger, Texas, at the age of 67, and was buried in Vernon, Texas.
