Ray L Morrow, son of Mr and Mrs EC Morrow, Crockett, attended Grapeland High. Entered Navy, 1944, trained in California. Served in AP. Discharged in 1946.
Great memories of a Great Dad!!!!
Ray Lester Morrow, age 68, of Crockett passed away Tuesday, May 9, 1995 in the Houston County Hospital. A native of Grapeland, Mr. Morrow was born August 12, 1926 in Electra, Texas, and was a lifetime resident of Houston County. Ray graduated from Grapeland High School in 1944 and joined the U.S. Navy. He received a honorable discharge in 1946 and went to work for Spidle's Dollar Store. Later he worked for Morrow Furniture Company for two years and then managed Callaway Funeral Home in Grapeland, where he was the public relations director and funeral director. Mr. Morrow owned and operated the Crockett Dairy Queen on Fourth Street for 29 years, beginning in 1955. He was instrumental in organizing the Texas Daily Queen Trade Association and was elected president for two terms. During this time, Mr. Morrow served as board of directors of the First National Bank and Allied Bank. After retiring from the restaurant business in 1983, Ray continued his business career in real estate investments and in financial institutions. Ray was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church in Crockett and Grapeland. Mr. Morrow was active in numerous community projects and service organizations including Crockett Chamber of Commerce, Crockett Jaycees, Crockett Housing Authority and served as a board member of the Houston County Water District No. 1. He was also a member of the local VFW Lodge, American Legion Post 0134 of Crockett, BPO Elks Lodge No. 1729 of Crockett and the Lovelady Lodge 74 of the SPJST.Jill Morrow McGunkin
