Mrs. J. D. Hefley, Sr., Prominent Citizen Here, Dies Friday, Jan. 1
Mrs. J. D. Hefley, Sr., died at 7:30 a.m. Friday, January 1, 1954 at the home of her son in Bryan. She had been in ill health for the past few years.
Mrs. Hefley was a prominent citizen of Cameron and she and her husband, the late J. D. Hefley, Sr., helped develop much of the city.
Mrs. Hefley was born in Houston, Texas on January 7, 1867. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hough Pannell. Mrs. Hefley had lived in Cameron for the past 70 years.
She married J. D. Hefley September 18, 1890. He preceded her in death December 9, 1925.
During her lifetime here in Cameron she was very active in church, civic and social work.
Mrs. Hefley is survived by one son, Jeff D. Hefley, Jr., of Bryan.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, January 3, 1954 from the Green Funeral Chapel. Rev. James McKeown, rector, All Saint's Episcopal Church officiated. Burial was made in Oak Hill cemetery.
