SPRING — Services for Bessie L. Beckner, 102, of Spring, formerly of Gainesville, are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home in Gainesville with the Rev. Bill Black pastor of Grand Avenue Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery.
Bessie Beckner died Dec. 10, 2007, at The Woodlands Health Care Center in The Woodlands.
She was born Dec. 3, 1905 near Sanger to John and Myrtle Gary. On July 22, 1923 she married Roger Levy Beckner in Tioga.
Bessie was a long-time Gainesville resident and was a faithful member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church. She leaves behind many dear friends and will be missed by all.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, JoAn and Dwain Dunn of Spring; grandchildren Roger Beckner, Jr., Debbie Beckner Denny, Dorian Beckner Ortowski; Tom Dunn and his wife, Joan; Terri Van Matre and her husband Tom; Jerry Beckner, Jr., and his wife Thais; Roger Lyndon Beckner and his wife Ana; and Joemia Beckner. There are nine great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Beckner; and by her two sons, Roger Eugene Beckner and Jerry Felix Beckner.
Immediately following the service at the funeral home, there will be a reception for family and friends at the Whaley United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Home Hospice of Cooke County, P.O. Box 936, Gainesville, TX 76241.
