Funeral services for Maria Sanchez, age 77 of Seminole were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at First Baptist Church with Luis Rey Sr. officiating. Burial followed at Gaines County Cemetery. All services were under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home of Seminole.

Mrs. Sanchez was born March 10, 1941 in Midland to Inez (Natividad) and Agustin Rey. She married Elias J. Sanchez in Lubbock on October 14, 1957. Maria loved her church and church family; she loved to sing. She was known for the best empanadas anywhere.

Her grandchildren were the jewels in her crown.

Maria Sanchez passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at her residence. She is preceded in death by her husband, Elias in 2011; three brothers and one daughter.

She is survived by two sons Jimmy Sanchez of Seminole, Joe Sanchez of Seminole; one daughter Elena Lerma and husband Luis of Seminole; five brothers Senon Rey of Lubbock, Agustin Rey Jr. and wife Alicia of Plainview, Tomas Rey and wife Rosa of Muleshoe, Daniel Rey and wife Jobita of Lubbock, Luis Rey and wife Judy of Rockwall; one sister Angie Pedroza and husband Mario of Lubbock; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
