PERRYTON - Olynda Beck, 96, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Darrouzett United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Darrouzett Cemetery by Johnson's Good Samaritan Funeral Service of Booker.

Olynda Hanshu Beck was born Aug. 21, 1911, to George and Mary Katherine Meier Hanshu on the family farm near Fargo, Okla. She passed away Oct. 10, 2007 in Perryton at the age of 96.

Linda, as she was affectionately known by family and friends, was baptized into the Christian faith and later as a young woman was confirmed at Gnadenfeld Evangelical Church. She received her schooling at the Tangier, Okla., school.

On Jan 19, 1936, Linda and Melvin L. Beck were united in marriage in Darrouzett Methodist Church in Darrouzett. They were the first couple to be married in the church, which at the time was only a basement. They spent their entire married life in Darrouzett with the exception of the time Melvin spent in the military. Melvin passed away in September 1991. In October 1996, Linda moved to Perryton, where she resided at the time of her death.

Linda was a longtime Methodist Church member, a charter member of the Darrouzett American Legion Auxiliary and a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

The Beck home was always a gathering place for nieces and nephews and their friends. Even though Melvin and Linda had no children of their own, they often served as surrogate parents to those who visited their home.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Millie, Emma, Marie and Helen; and three brothers, Jake, Dave and Henry.

Survivors include a brother, Carl Hanshu of Shattuck, Okla.; two sisters-in law, Esther Marie Hanshu of Shattuck and Billie Beck of Oklahoma City; and a host of relatives and friends.

The family suggests memorials be to Darrouzett Methodist Church, Darrouzett Friendship Club or a favorite charity.
