Abilene Reporter News - March 6, 2004
Harold Holden, former Mayor of Clyde, succumbed at his home in Clyde on Thursday morning, March 4, 2004. Visitation will be at Bailey Funeral Home on Saturday, March 6, from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. Dr. Doug Mills of the First United Methodist Church in Clyde will conduct services at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 7, 2004.
Born December 3, 1920 to Mamie and Charles Sumner Holden, Holden was a lifelong resident of Clyde and member of the First United Methodist Church at Clyde. Harold was Valedictorian of the 1938 class of Clyde High School. A veteran of World War II, he served in the 793rd Military Police Battalion, in the European theater. He taught the Good Samaritan Sunday class for almost 25 years.
Primary in his life were his wife, family and celebrations of life when everyone could be together. They delighted in numerous trips to see the grandchildren participate in many activities. His specific personal interests were meteorology, Texas history, traveling, thanks to their good friends, the Lee Smiths; cartography, storytelling of historical events and reminiscing of specific details and events that occurred throughout his lifetime. He loved the piano music performed by his wife during her fifty years of playing for the Methodist Church.
His business career included trucking, farming and ranching, and serving as Water Superintendent of the City of Clyde. After retirement, he worked fifteen years for the Callahan County Nutrition Project.
