Funeral services were held from the First Christian Church Saturday afternoon for D.D. Wilson, 62, who passed away at the home of his son in Vernon Friday. He had been in ill health for two years, but was seriously ill for less than
three weeks before his death.
Dora Dewitt Wilson was born November 20, 1872, at Cameron, Milam County, Texas. He came to Coleman County to make his home in 1892. He was married to Miss Alice Ashley February 22, 1895, and she preceded him in death by seventeen years. Six children were born, and all survive and were present for the funeral. They are J.C. Wilson and D.D. Wilson of Vernon, M.C. Wilson of Ft. Worth, Mrs. Sam McGehee and Mrs. Imogene Rose of Memphis Tennessee, and Mrs E.N. Hammer of Birmingham, Alabama. Nine grandchildren also survive. His brother, Eugene Wilson of Douglass, Arizona was unable to be here. The body lay in the home of his sister, Mrs. A.T. Dick of Santa Anna.
Deceased joined the Methodist Church at the age of eighteen, but joined the First Christian Church here twenty-six years ago. He was a member of the local IOOF, WOW, and the Woodmen Circle.
Services were conducted by Rev. A.L. Haley, pastor of the Christian Church, assisted by Rev. Homer Vanderpool, Methodist pastor. Hosch Funeral directors made arrangement, and interment was in the Santa Anna Cemetery
