When Van Nicholas Wisdom was born in 1948, his father, J.C., was 30 and his mother, Dorothy, was 28. He had six siblings. He died in 1969 at the age of 21.

Van Nicholas Wisdom, 20, son of J.C.(Jake) and Dorothy Streit Wisdom was killed Monday morning, May 12, 1969 at the family farm by an accidental blast from a 12-gauge shotgun. According to local law enforcement, Van had gone to the farm to shoot some skunks and it appeared that the gun had gotten hung on the seat as Van was getting out of the pickup and accidentally discharged striking young Wisdom in the chest. Van was born September 2, 1948 in Vernon, Texas. He attended Thalia schools and graduated from Crowell High School in 1967 where he lettered in football and track and was active in the Future Farmers of America. Van was a lifelong resident of Thalia, Texas and worked on the family farm. Van was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to build things and was known as a hard worker. He is survived by his parents, Jake and Dorothy; one brother, J.Rockne, and 3 sisters, Cindy, Mollye and Pollye, all of Thalia; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Streit of Lockett and Mrs. A.B. Wisdom of Thalia. . He was preceded in death by one brother, Andrew. Services were held at 4:30 p.m. at the Thalia Baptist Church by Rev. Charles Booker. Interment was in Wilbarger Memorial Park in Vernon, Texas.
