J.C.(Jake)Wisdom,89, died Monday, August 6, 2007 at Hospice in Wichita Falls, Texas after a brief illness. Jake was born March 8, 1918 at the family farm near Thalia, Texas, to A.B. and Lillie Dora Giraudin Wisdom. He married Dorothy Lena Streit on June 11, 1947 in Lockett, Texas. He was a graduate of Thalia High School. He was a lifetime resident of Thalia and a farmer. He was a 60-year member of Thalia Masonic Lodge #666 where he received the Golden Trowel Award for faithful service. He was also a member of the Maskat Shrine, Chapter and Council and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite and York Rite member. He was a founding member of the Thalia Riding Club, the Foard County 4-H Horse Club and Thalia Water Supply Corporation. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and the American Paint Horse Association. He was a World War II Navy veteran serving aboard the USS Mississippi for four years where they campaigned in all of the major battles of the South Pacific. He was a former Foard County Deputy Sheriff, a longtime President of the Thalia Ex-Students Association and also a member of the Crowell Ambulance Board. Jake was a great family man and community man. He served on every board imaginable and hosted family, community and school reunions. He was larger than life and had a great love for his hometown Thalia, Texas. His death leaves a tremendous void in his family and his community. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Lena; one son, J. Rockne and wife Gina of Thalia; three daughters: Cindy Wisdom, Mollye Hatfield and husband Ray, Pollye Moore and husband Ronnie all of Thalia. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Chance Moore, Andi Wisdom, Chase Moore and Mardi Wisdom and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents A.B. and Dora Giraudin Wisdom and six brothers: Charlie B., William, Beecher, Frank, Lew and Floyd "Doc" Andrew. He was also preceded in death by two sons: Van Nicholas and Andrew Burton and two nieces, Sandra Wisdom Philley and Phyllis Wisdom. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on August 9 at the First Baptist Church in Crowell conducted by Rev. Gerald Bastin and Rev. David Fox, assisted by lifelong friends, Bill Marlow and Sherman McBeath. Music provided by James Streit, Rob Brotherton, Larry Drennan, Jessie Appleby and Sharon Westmoreland. Pallbearers: David Carpenter, Fred Gray Jr., Zack McKinley, Walter Max Gaebler, Mike Price, J.R. Edwards, Bobby Joe Cerda, Sherman McBeath. Members of the Thalia Masonic Lodge served as honorary pallbearers.
