When Charles Ray Carpenter was born on November 19, 1923, in Vernon, Texas, his father, Robert, was 19 and his mother, Gertrude, was 21. He married Vina Louise Erwin on October 24, 1942. He died on March 21, 1997, in his hometown at the age of 73.
