Burl E. Barron, 74, of Denver City, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2008 in Denver City.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at 4 p.m. in the Bethel Baptist Church with Reverend Larry Key officiating, assisted by Reverend Randy Gooch. Interment will follow in the Loop Cemetery with services under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Denver City.
Burl was born Oct. 15, 1933, in Lamesa, to Spencer and Ernestine Barron. He married Mary Halbrooks in Ashmore on May 21, 1960. Burl was in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956, and served in the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Texas Tech. with a degree in Agriculture Engineering. Burl worked as a ranch manager for Higginbotham Cattle Co. for 28 years. Burl was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church where he has been a deacon since 1975 and taught youth Sunday school classes for many years. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Diann Barron, on Dec. 16, 1976.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Barron; a daughter, Prissy Summers and husband Terry of Denver City; and two grandchildren, Ethan Summers, a student at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, and Alexis Summers a junior at Denver City ISD; two sisters, Alice Reid of Lamesa and Ruby Dutton and husband Claude of Abilene; and two brothers, Carrol Barron of Fremont, Ohio, and Jim Barron and wife Kayron of Brownfield.
Pallbearers will be Melvin Halbrooks, John Halbrooks, Randy Reid, Wesley Rodgers, Shawn Bethany and Jason Bethany. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of the Bethel Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Seminole Memorial Hospice, 1004 Hobbs Hwy. Suite 2, Seminole, Texas 79360.
