When Charles Sylvester Thomas was born on January 4, 1918, in Willard, New Mexico, his father, Frank, was 25 and his mother, Florence, was 18. He married Nelda Jo Hall on April 12, 1942, in Frederick, Oklahoma. They had five children during their marriage. He died on July 26, 2006, in Vernon, Texas, at the age of 88, and was buried there.
