When Edwin Lewis "Shorty" Tolan was born on February 22, 1915, in Electra, Texas, his father, James, was 32 and his mother, Ruby, was 23. He married Edna Evelyn Bachman. He died on May 26, 1969, in Vernon, Texas, at the age of 54, and was buried there.
