Mrs. T.J. Rush, 87, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, in a local hospital following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Community Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rusty Leavitt, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran, officiating. Interment will be in Wilbarger Memorial Park.
Mrs. Rush was born Oct 18, 1910 in Thalia, a daughter of the late Samuel and Effie Lawhorn. She married T.J. Rush in April 1948 in Amarillo. A retired employee of Wichita Falls and Vernon state hospitals, she was a member of the Vernon VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Zion Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Cecil C. Atkissison of Vernon; a sister, Blanche Key of Frederick, Okla.
Two brothers preceded her in death.
The family will receive guests from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Funeral services for T.J. Rush, 94 of Vernon, who died on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, in Vernon will be will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013 at Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Kenneth Bersche. Interment will be held at Wilbarger Memorial Park under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.
Rush was born Wednesday, Nov. 27, 1918 in Olden, Texas. He was the son of the late Fred Rush and the late Sarah Jane Burrow Rush. He married Minnie Jane Lawhorn on April 16, 1948 in Amarillo. She preceded him in death on Jan. 22, 1998. He had lived most of his life in Vernon. He served in the US Army E-4 during WWII Engineer 46th Division Pacific Theater, receiving three Bronze Stars and six Overseas Bars. He worked at Vernon State Hospital as a therapist, and he was a carpenter. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion and was also a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
He is survived by several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Troy Rush.

When Thomas Jefferson "TJ" Rush was born on November 27, 1918, in Olden, Texas, his father, Fred, was 35 and his mother, Sarah, was 33. He married Minnie Jane Lawhorn in April 1948. He died on December 15, 2012, in Vernon, Texas, at the age of 94, and was buried there.
