The celebration will be led by Dave Langford, of Lubbock, TX, and Michael's uncle, Van McCormick, of Clovis, NM. Michael entered into peaceful eternal sleep on April 30, 2016.
Michael was born on August 17, 1961, to Marcus Wirt McCormick and Nadra Leona (Orick) McCormick, in Bloomington, Indiana. Michael grew up the son of a preacher, spending his childhood in Bakersfield, CA, and Savannah, GA, but finally settling in Seagraves, TX, and attending Seagraves High School. He was a tuba player in the sweepstakes winning "Pride of the Plains" Band and had the honor of playing on the state qualifying 1977 Eagle football team with his older brother, Stephen. Michael was a graduate of the Seagraves High School class of 1980.
Michael attended Lubbock Christian University in the fall of 1980, playing on the first football team at LCU. He later attended the South Houston Bible Institute, from 1984-1987, which began a lifelong ministry for Michael. He helped organize and instruct at the "Summer Excitement" ministry for many years.
While he continued to minister, he was employed in many locations from Oceanside, CA, Baker, LA, Sand Springs, OK, to Lubbock, TX, with many different companies, including Delta Airlines, Dollar General, United Supermarkets, and Stripes Convenient Stores, until his health began to fail and he could no longer work.
Michael will be joining many family members in Heaven, including his dad, Marcus Wirt McCormick, mom, Nadra Leona McCormick, sister, Leona Bernice (McCormick) Henly, and a nephew, Stephen Dean McCormick, Jr.
Those left to celebrate his memory are his only son, John Marcus McCormick of Petal, MS, 2 brothers, Marcus Wirt McCormick, Jr. (Dee Dawn), of Dalhart, TX, and Stephen Dean McCormick (Monica) of Denver City, TX. Nephews Casey McCormick (Brittany), Gabriel and Ava of Dalhart, TX, Mitchell McCormick, of Lubbock, TX, nieces Cori (McCormick) Matsakis (Louie) Michael, Nicholas and Maia, of Lexington, KY, Allison (McCormick) German, and Kimber, of Denver City, TX, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Michael D. McCormick, to Quaker Avenue Church of Christ Benevolent Fund, 1701 Quaker Avenue, Lubbock, Texas, 79416, or to a charity of your choice.
