Rosalie Provence Abney, 94, of Andrews passed away early Friday, November 23, 2012 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

Rosalie was born March 21, 1918 in Clarksville, Texas to Perry and Rosa Provence.

She worked at the Lone Star Amory during World War II making bombs and ammunition.

She was a graduate of the first LVN class offered in Andrews in the mid 1950's and she scored the highest grade in Texas tat years on the state exam. She worked as a surgical nurse for most of her career in Andrews but also worked for a time at Wadley Medical Center in Texarkana, Texas. She was an expert quilter and was even featured in a story in the Odessa American's Parade Magazine.

She was a tough, resilient lady that had survived Open heart surgery at the age of 86 and at 91 she broke a hip and still recovered well enough to go home and live on her own.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Charles Thelmer Abney and Gary Lynn Abney.

She is survived by her children, Dorothy Jean "Dot" Burton of Baton Rouge, LA; Virginia "Jen" Lee Abney of Snyder, Texas; James Robert Abney of Andrews; 13 grandchildren, Jerry Brown of ft. Worth, TX; David Brown of Snyder, TX; James Abney, Jr. of Andrews, TX; Larry Abney of Free Port, FL; Teresa Yocom of Chehalis, WA; Sandy Trevillion of Water Proof, LA; Donna Ackerman of Kailua, Hawaii; Sherry Stokes of Houston; Angela Ash of Andrews; Nancy Brin-Imachi of San Leandro, CA Susan Goetz of Amarillo, TX; Gina Bunch of Georgetown, TX; Lori Howard of Andrews; 19great-gradchildren; Adam Trevillion; Trey Brown; J.G. Stokes; Derrick Bunch; Ryan and Chad Marse; Thomas and Phillip Ackerman; Casey Eades; Susan Trevillion; Kathleen Brim Senekal; Olivia Imachi; Kelsea and Kaliegh Goetz; Jamie Abney; Jalesa Abney; Chrissy Eades; Chloey Abney; Bailey Abney and seven great-great-grandsons, Jage Stokes, Benton Stokes, Logan Eades; Cayden Eades; Alex Brown; Lakhoni Senekal and Hagen Marse and one great-great-granddaughter, Bailey Senekal.
