Funeral services for Carl Cecil Johnson, Jr., 86, will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at 10 a.m. in the First Baptist Church in Denver City, Reverend Kyle Sturen officiating. Services will be under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Denver City. Interment with military honors will follow in the Denver City Memorial Park. He passed away June 26, 2016, at Shinnery Oaks retirement village in Denver City. Carl was born Oct. 29, 1929, in Greeley, CO, to the late Carl C. and Doris Thomas Johnson. He married Virginia Chambliss on June 17, 1951, in the First Baptist Church in Brownfield, Texas. Carl was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict serving with the government of Guam while stationed there. He retired from Amoco Production and volunteered for 36 years as a referee for football and basketball games. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church. Carl was preceded in death by a brother, Eldon Johnson. Carl is survived by his wife, Virginia Johnson of Denver City; a son, Dwayne and his wife, Wanda of Andrews; two granddaughters, Misty Johnson of Irving and Kristy Crutcher and her husband, Jason of Andrews; two great-granddaughters, Kason and Kynlee Crutcher of Andrews; and three sisters, Lovella Roach, Willa Mitchell and Jeanette Chambliss. The family suggests memorials to the First Baptist Church of Denver City. The family will receive friends, Tuesday, from 7 to 8 at the Ratliff Funeral Home Chapel. Source: Ratliff Funeral Home.
