Funeral services for Helen Millikin Barr, 91, of Fort Washington, Md., formerly of Brownwood, were held at 10 a.m. today, Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at the Union Presbyterian Church in Brownwood with the Rev. Joan Gaines officiating. Interment will follow in the Cross Plains Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home of Brownwood.
Mrs. Barr died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at the Millennium Health and Rehab Center in Fort Washington, MD.
Helen was born on Dec. 23, 1912, in Sabinal, the daughter of the late William and Maude Kennedy Millikin. She married Alva Loran Barr, who preceded her in death in 1981. She had worked for many years in Midland at the Humble Oil Company. She had been a resident of Brownwood and a member of the Union Presbyterian Church before moving to Fort Washington, MD.
Survivors include: one step-daughter, Charlsye Morris Prince and husband, J. C., of Brownwood; one niece, Kathy Hunter and husband, Scott, of Fort Washington, Md; two nephews, Bill Robey and wife, Vicki, of Accokeek, Md. and Bruce Robey and wife, Adele, of Washington D.C.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Bertrand Millikin and two sisters, Doris Millikin and Genevieve Robey.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the International Rett Syndrome Association, 9121 Picasta Way, Suite 2B, Clinton, MD, 20735.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening, Jan. 11, at the funeral home.
