Vernie Lee Hobbs, 74, of Andrews passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 in Andrews.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at a graveside service at 2:00 PM Friday, December 22, 2017 in the Andrews North Cemetery with Brother James Beard, officiating. Visitation will be at McNett Funeral Home on Thursday from 6 – 9 PM and Friday from 9 AM – 1:30 PM, and the family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 – 8 PM. Vernie was born on February 12, 1943 in Roswell, Texas to Jessie Marshal Lacy Hobbs and Katherine Harden Hobbs. He was raised and attended schools in Morton and Levelland. He moved to Andrews in 1981, where he owned and operated Vernon’s Muffler Shop and retired in 2007. He married Billie C. Powers, and she preceded him in death on October 8, 2003. He had owned and operated Vernon’s Roofing and had farmed for 10 years in Andrews. He loved to race cars on the quarter mile, tell stories, drink his coffee, hunt, fish, and enjoyed eating Bernie’s catfish. He enjoyed giving everyone a hard time and loved to smile and laugh. But most of all, he loved his family and grandchildren. He was married to Carol Ann Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sons, Vernon and Lee Don Hobbs, and 3 sisters, Dolly York, Mary Henderson, and Barbara Powers.

Vernie is survived by his wife, Carol Hobbs of Andrews; 7 children, Rickey Hobbs and wife, Selinda, Jimmy Hobbs and wife, Blanca, Charlotte Garrett and husband, Ronnie, Linda Harvey and husband, Larry, Michelle Hobbs, and Marshal Hobbs, all of them from Andrews, and Katina Robinson and husband, Bernie, of Bennington, Oklahoma; 2 brothers, Jerry Hobbs and Ronnie Hobbs and wife, Eva, both of Andrews; 4 sisters, Tony Pando and husband, Amador, of Andrews, Cathy Trevino and husband, Carlos, of Andrews, Donna Hobbs of Odessa, and Francis Gail and husband, Randall, of Burnet; 24 grandchildren; and 31 great grandchildren.
