Durwood Carter, 88, of Mart passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 14,2000 at a Waco hospital. Services were held at 11:00 a..m on Friday, Nov. 17, at Littlepage Funeral Home. Rev. Steve Heyduck officiated. Burial followed at Mart Cemetery.
Mr.Carter was born Oct. 21, 1912 in Mart to Maude Rutherford Carter and Benjamin Franklin Carter. He spent his early childhood in Big Hill,Texas. He graduated from Groesbeck High School in 1933, where he was a star football player. On August 8, 1935, he was married to Aileen Hood. He farmed in the Big Hill community and then moved to Mart in 1943.
He was an active and contributing member of his community serving as a volunteer for 25 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Mart, where he sang in the choir and served as a member of the Board of Stewarts. He also volunteered at Park Plaza Nursing Home and for the Senior Meals Program. He was an ardent Mart Panther fan and rarely missed a football game as long as his health permitted. He was a member of the Texas A&M Century Club and his enthusiasm for the Aggie's was well known. He was known to most everyone as Dad-O and he and Mimmy always had a place in their hearts and homes for anyone who needed them.
