August 19, 1915 - January 6, 2006
Aileen "Mimmy" Carter, 90, passed away Friday, January 6, 2006, in Sulphur Springs. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 9, at Littlepage Funeral Home in Mart. Burial will follow at Mart Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 8, at Littlepage Funeral Home.
Aileen was born in Armory, Mississippi, the second child of the late Jesse James and Addie Mae Holloway Hood. The family moved to Groesbeck, Texas, and Aileen graduated from Groesbeck High Schook in 1933. On Aug. 8, 1935, she married Durwood Carter. The young couple made their home in Mart in 1945. She worked at the 1st National Bank of Mart for 30 years and after her retirement, managed the Mart Community Center for several years. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Mart, serving many years as chairman of Circle 5.
At age 72, Mimmy became a charter member of the Mart volunteer EMS, a work she dearly loved. She was a recipient of the Jefferson Award, given to recognize outstandiing community service. Mimmy was generous and loving, secure in her faith and happy in her life. Mimm was a 60-year resident of Mart, but had made her home in West since April of 2005, with her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Shon Carter.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years; infant son, Joe Michael Carter; and brother, E.T. Hood.
She is survived by her son, Mark Carter and wife, Shon, of West; daughter, Larissa Blount and husband, Gary, of Sulphur Springs; grandchildren, Melissa and Steve Briley, and Robert Struwe, of Park City, Utah, Erwin and Melissa Butler, of Corsicana, Edwin and Beth Butler, of Diamond Head, Miss., Jane Butler, of Dallas, and Jonathan Butler, serving with the U.S. Army in Korea; great-grandchildren, Benjamin Carter and Quinn Morgan Briley, Nate Butler and Anthony Gosel; sisters, Wilma Wilson and husband, Seth, of Mexia, and Athalee DeZell and husband, Glendon, of Waco; sisters-in-law, Ruby Bennett, of Groesbeck, and Geneva Hood of Austin; and numerous, much loved nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews.
