Francisca Mendez Acevedo, 67, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, at Midwest Regional Medical Center, in Midwest City, Okla. Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Lawrence Soler officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. A Rosary will be 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home by Dolores Barrios followed by visitation at 7 p.m.

Francisca was one of seven children born in Mexico, to the late Anastacio and Juana Mendez. She married Marcos Acevedo on June 15, 1962. Francisca "Panchita", as she was known to her friends, resided in Crawford, Texas for 23 years before moving to Waco. She moved to Oklahoma City in 2007, where she lived next door to her youngest daughter for the last two years of her life. Francisca was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a member of the "Guadalupanas" and was instrumental in the building of the church by making tamales to raise funds.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Martin Mendez; and a sister-in-law, Aurora Rubi Mendez.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Marcos; her children, Irma Dunnam and husband, Vance Jr., Petronila Barrios and husband, Ramon, Hilda Acevedo, Carolina Rodarte and husband, Juan, Marcos Acevedo Jr. and wife, Irma, Maria de la Luz Mendez, and Olga Davila; 21 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brothers, Manuel and wife, Santos, Julio, Florencio, Guadalupe and wife, Ermelinda and Antonio Mendez; several nieces and nephews; and other family members and friends.
