Mrs. Nettie Mae Washington Chatman was born in Riesel, Texas, to the late Cuearyand Laura Washington. She was educated in Axtell Elementary and graduated from Dunbar High School in West, Texas. She was married to Zeb D. Chatman. To this union one son was born, William Earl Chatman. She united wlth New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Axtell until moving to Waco, where she was united with the Bethel Baptist Church under the pastorialship of Rev. Camel Mason, in 1969, where she was a dutiful and faithful member and past president of the Pastor's Aid Board and was a Sunday school teacher. Mrs. Chatman has been a member of the Heroines of Jericho Court # 278 for 34 years. She did volunteer work for EOAC Southeast Neighborhood Council where she served as president from 1982-1991, VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) 13 years, council member of Telechon Northeast and Estella Maxey Community Center. She leaves to cherish her memory: a loving and devoted son, William Earl Chatman; three sisters, Mrs.
Minnie O. Justice of Malone, Texas, Mrs. Robbie Joiner of Midlothian, Texas, and Mrs. Johnnie B. Ross of Waco , Texas; six brothers, Searcy Lee Washington of Galinda, Texas, Cueary Washington Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas, George Washington of Cameron, Texas, Samuel Claude Washington of Fort Worth, Texas, Frank Washington of Saudi Arabia, and James Seay Washington of Houston, Texas; five ststers-in-law, one brother-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
