*Obituary for Mellie
Mellie Joyce Hughes Gober went home to her Savior Jesus Christ on April 16, 2016.

The family will receive friends 7:00 – 9:00 pm Wednesday, April 20, 2016. A funeral service will be held at 9:00 am Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Mission Dorado Baptist Church. Interment will be at 3:00 pm Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Denver City Cemetery in Denver City, Texas.

Mellie was born March 3, 1927 in Coleman, Texas to Elmer and Annie Hughes.

She spent her life in service to others. A gentle and kind wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She loved gatherings of family and friends and furnished many holiday meals and celebrations through the years. Mellie served in many capacities as a faithful church member. She and Ernest helped start a community church in Crocket County where Ernest was working in the oil patch. The church has since moved to Ozona where it is still a blessing. She also served as church pianist and Bible teacher during the years her four children were being born and throughout her life. She worked in churches in Crane, Andrews, Denver City and Odessa as the family followed Ernest’s transfers with oil companies.

One of the highlights of her life was a trip to Israel that she and Ernest took with Imanuel Baptist Church Odessa in 1987. She loved how their experiences there added to her knowledge of the Bible. An accomplished Bible scholar, she enjoyed discussing the Word with others and encouraged many to delve deeper into God’s Word.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Ernest J. Gober; her children, Sue and Donny Ellison, David and Sue Gober, and Becky Baze; six grandchildren, Christy, Jennifer, John, Stephen, Matthew, and James; and six great-grandchildren, Preston, Piper, Jackson, Darby, Zane, and Isbelle.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one son, John Ray Gober, one sister, Ophelia Hughes Watson, and two brothers, Lee Frank Hughes and Doyle Dean Hughes.

The family would like to express their gratitude towards Hospice Midland and the homebound ministry of Mission Dorado Baptist Church.
