Layne Black DENVER CITY-Funeral services for Layne Black, age 92, of Denver City, Texas, will be held Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Denver City, with Dr. Marty Akins officiating. Burial will follow in Denver City Memorial Park. Family will greet visitors at First Baptist Church on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015, from 4 to 7 p.m. Mr. Black will lie in state at Boyer Funeral Home in Seminole, Texas, until service time. All services are under the direction of Boyer Memorial Chapel of Denver City, Texas, in association with Boyer Funeral Home of Seminole, Texas.

Mr. Black was born April 15, 1923, in Pontotoc, Miss., to Eula (Kidd) and Hinds Black. He married Wanda Belknap in Seagraves, Texas, on July 7, 1943, and had lived in Denver City since 1946. He was a Baptist and worked as a plant manager for Vulcan Chemicals. He served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Layne Black enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, baseball, antiquing, traveling and going to flea markets in his spare time. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed picking on people as a prank; he was an all-around good man.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wanda Black in 2013; one daughter, Valois Harrison; one son, Kenny Black; two brothers, and one grandson. He is survived by: one daughter, Rojean Therwhanger of Seminole, Texas; one sister, Muriel Cates of Denver City, Texas; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. boyerfuneralhome.net

Funeral services for Wanda Black, age 87, of Denver City, Texas will be held Thursday October 24, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Denver City with Pastor Marty Akin officiating and Pastor Randy Butler assisting. Burial will follow at Denver City Memorial Park. All services are under the direction of Boyer Memorial Chapel of Denver City in association with Boyer Funeral Home of Seminole.

Mrs. Black passed away Tuesday October 22, 2013 at Shinnery Oaks Nursing Home in Denver City. She was born June 19, 1926 to Sarah (Gordy) and Alonzo Belknap in Fort Sumner, New Mexico. She married Layne Black July 7, 1943 in Seagraves, Texas.

Wanda was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting, ceramics, traveling and camping. She was a Baptist and she loved her family dearly. She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Munroe Belknap and Marion Belknap; one son, Kenny Black; one daughter, Valois Harrison; and one grandson, Jason Harrison.

Wanda Black is survived by her husband, Layne Black of Denver City, Texas; one daughter, Rojean Therwhanger of Seminole, Texas; one sister, Geneva Cornett and husband John of Gatesville, Texas; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren. boyerfuneralhome.net
