Anne Marie Finch 1964-2015 Anne Marie Finch passed away in her home at her beloved farm in Pleasureville, Kentucky on August 28, 2015 in a house fire. Anne Marie was a much loved part of the Houston community, where she practiced law for many years. She was named one of Houston's Top Lawyers in Labor & Employment by H Texas Magazine, and was named a Texas Super Lawyer and Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent rated in both Employment and Intellectual Property Law. She served on several bar organizations, and was once a district chair of the grievance committee. She was elected to the State Bar of Texas Pro Bono College. Anne Marie was a shareholder and director of Zimmerman, Axelrad, Meyer, Stern & Wise, P.C. in Houston. Anne Marie was very active in the community and in charitable causes. She was on the Boards of the Houston Police Officers Civil Service Commission, Habitat for Horses, Inc., the Urban Debate League, the Notre Dame Law Association for Regions 13 and 14, and Girls, Inc. of Greater Houston, where she served as Chair in 2012. In addition, she supported the Museum of Fine Arts, the Alley Theater, the Lawyers in Public Schools Program, the ABA task Force on Legal Needs of Children in Harris County, the Spanish Mustangs of Blackjack Mountain and the South Texas Labrador Retriever Rescue Organizations. Anne Marie grew up all over the world, the daughter of an Air Force officer, eventually settling in Mississippi. She attended Notre Dame and then Notre Dame Law School and graduated both with honors, and continued to support the school after she settled into her law practice in Texas. It was in Texas that she met the love of her life, Lloyd Schwing. Anne Marie and Lloyd settled in Houston together, but neither was the sort to stay in one place. They supplemented their lives in Houston at their farm in Pleasureville, Kentucky, where they raised Spanish Mustang horses, cultivating a conservation herd of this rare breed. Anne Marie was an avid dog lover. She regularly, picked up stray and lost dogs in need of help off the streets, working to find them homes. Her favorite black lab, Molly, and Golden Retriever Madison preceded her by a couple of years. She and Lloyd's golden retriever, Chief, and their foster dog, Cookie, perished in the fire along with Anne Marie. Anne Marie is survived by her husband, Lloyd Schwing, her parents, Colonel Mark and Myra Finch, and siblings, Mary Katherine Feix, Mark T. Finch, III and wife Andi, Andrea Finch Lawson and husband Dale Scott Lawson and three nephews. She is greatly missed by her family, her friends and colleagues in the Houston legal community, her partners and friends at Zimmerman, Axelrad, and the numerous beneficiaries of her charitable work, humans, equines and canines, alike. A memorial service honoring Anne Marie's exemplary life will be held at the Omni Houston Galleria Hotel, Regency Ball Room, Four Riverway Houston, TX 77056 on November 7th, 2015 from 1:30 to 4:00 PM. Room reservations can be made by contacting the Omni Galleria at 713-871-8181 and referencing the AMF Memorial Room Block also rooms can be booked by going to www.omnihotels.com/hotels/houston/meetings/amf-memorial. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Anne Marie Finch Memorial Fund that has been established at the University of Notre Dame to benefit a Notre Dame Law School Student in the form of a Scholarship, which will be perpetual. Checks should be made to Notre Dame Law School with Anne M. Finch Memorial Fund written on the memo line and mailed to 1100 Grace Hall, Notre Dame, IN 46556. A private ceremony for family will be held in Hughes Springs TX at a later date.
