MISSION - Lucy Vavra Brandt beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother and great great grandmother went to her heavenly home on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Mission Regional Medical Center at the age of 101 after a brief illness. She was born on December 11, 1911 in Cestohowa, Texas.
She married the father of her children in Floresville, Texas on June 7, 1937 and shortly thereafter moved to Mission, Texas and started their family. The oldest of ten children she was preceded in death by her parents Elizabeth and Jerome Niemietz, her first husband Jerry Vavra, her second husband Rudy Brandt, brothers Steve, Pete, Frank and Emil. She is also preceded in death by her sisters Eleanor Kotzur, Regina Niemietz, Annie Niemietz, Helen Bass and her son Sherman Vavra.
She is survived her children Anna Mae Limbaugh of Mission, Texas and Catherine (Bob) James of McAllen, Texas. Grandchildren Ronald (Ginger) Limbaugh of Portland, Texas, Michelle James of Kingsville, Texas, Jennifer (Kyle) Johnson of Richmond, Texas, Keri (Steve) Rodgers of New Braunfels, Texas and J.J. (Lindsey) Vavra of Harlingen, Texas. She is also survived by eight great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren as well as by a sister Sylvia Laning of Florida; daughter-in-law Toni Vavra; a sister-in-law Jean Niemietz.
Visitation on Tuesday, December 18, 2012, from 4 -7pm with a 6pm rosary at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission. A funeral mass on Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at 11:00am at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Mission. Burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Mission.
