Bonita Ouida Corbett died at Edgewood Manor in Texarkana on August 9, 2014 of natural causes at age 95.
Bonita was a lifelong resident of Texarkana, born to Clarence and Ouida White in the historic Highland Park area. Born April 26, 1919, she graduated Texas High School in 1938.
Bonita married Leander Edward “Sonny” Corbett in 1942. After Sonny left to serve in the army, Bonita taught piano lessons and played the organ in several local churches. She also worked as a clerk at Ben F. Smith’s department store downtown. After Sonny came home from the war, they operated Corbett Dental Lab until Sonny’s retirement in 1987.
Bonita is predeceased by Sonny in 1991 and her son-in-law, Terry Don Brown in 2012.
Bonita is survived by her two children, Pat and Linda Corbett and Carolyn Corbett Brown; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Bonita was a lifelong member of the historic Pine Street Presbyterian Church, later renamed Presbyterian Church the Redeemer. Bonita was presented Honorary Life Membership in the Presbyterian Women Association in 1999 and awarded the prestigious Presbyterian Woman of the Year in 2008.
Bonita was an avid gardener and considered her garden also as a place of worship, a place to commune with God. Bonita was a lover of animals owning dogs for much of her life. She opened her home to two rescue dogs that became loving companions.
Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Texarkana, Texas
