Harriet Doyle May
1861-1949

The Dominion Cattle Company of Canada owned large holdings in Lipscomb County (the Box T Ranch). In 1888, when many settlers began to arrive in the area, Dominion sold the ranch to a man named Dameron. Mr. Dameron hired Patrick Doyle to come down from Canada to manage the cattle ranch. Under Doyle's care, the ranch prospered, Doyle purchased a part interest and brought his bride Harriet (McCarthy) Doyle down to Texas. The Doyles had three sons, Robert, Frank and Charles Doyle. By 1900, the Doyles had purchased the remainder of the Box T and ran it on a reduced basis. After Doyle's death, Harriet married John A. May and they continued to run the large ranch until his untimely death in 1940. Sons Robert and Frank Doyle took over the managing reins until 1955 when most of the ranch was sold off. In 1986, the Doyle family still held an interest in the pioneer ranch of Lipscomb County.
