Celia Barton
Sept 17, 1866-April 27, 1945
The sight of Indians passing her home, of herds of cattle, and of covered wagons pulled by horses and oxen, were as common as the air plane flying through the skies to the late Mrs. Celia BARTON, who came to the Panhandle in 1890.
After the death of her husband, Henry BARTON, in 1913, Mrs. BARTON moved from the family home in Canadian to the Barton Ranch in Lipscomb where she was in active charge until her recent death.
Funeral services were conducted in the First Christian Church at Canadian on April 30. She was one of the founders and a charter member of the church. Burial was by the side of her husband at Lipscomb.
Survivors are three children, Lail BARTON, Dick BARTON and Lelia Barton REYNOLDS, all of Canadian; three grandchildren, Mrs. Celia Dee BREWER of Booker, Dick BARTON Jr., and Lelia Ross BARTON of Canadian, and three sisters, Mrs. Fannie WILKINS of Medicine Lodge, Lan., Mrs. Elizabeth BOWEN of Wichita, Kan., and Mrs. Alex BARTON of Lipscomb.
Mrs. BARTON, the former Celia MILLS, came to the Panhandle with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cloud MILLS of Medicine Lodge, Kan. In 1882 she married Henry BARTON at the homestead where she passed away.
Mr. BARTON was recognized at one of the first cattlemen to settle and operate a spread in the northeast Panhandle.
