Davaleen Stribling Schroder, 96, of Spearman, Texas joined the angels in Heaven on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 in Spearman, Texas. A family visitation will be held at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home in Spearman Friday, August 3, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Spearman, officiated by Rev. Byron Potter. Burial is a private family ceremony at Hansford Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman, Texas.
Davaleen was born on April 17, 1922 in Grey County, Texas, to David Stribling and Kathleen McIntire Stribling. She married her husband, R.L. (Leon) Schroder in 1944, and after his discharge from the Army Air Corp in 1946, they made their home on the Schroder place 12 miles southwest of Spearman. After the sale of the home place in 1963, Leon and Davaleen moved their house and four trees to 215 S. Roland in Spearman. Davaleen lived there independently until 2016.
Davaleen was a wife, mother, and homemaker. When the opportunity to work for the hospital came along, she jumped at the chance to share her love of cooking. Davaleen retired from the Dietary department in 1992 with 25 years of service. In addition to cooking, she enjoyed sewing. In her younger years, and for a time, she was an avid crocheter. She was also a proud member of Eastern Star for 72 years. Davaleen loved the Lord and hearing God’s Word. She joined First Baptist Church of Spearman in 1946. Her other love was her family.
Leon and Davaleen had three children, Kay, Arnold David, and Rodney. Arnold David died in 1950 at nine months of age. She is also preceded in death by Leon in 1993. They were married 48 years. Her son-in-law, Duane Loomis passed in 2016.
Davaleen is survived by a daughter, Kay Loomis of Spearman, Texas and a son, Rodney Schroder and his wife Gwyn of Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Davaleen has many branches on her family tree, including five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She loved us well and we will miss her.
